giant fish

more from greenbrier. autumn is always ready for a picture--except when you surprise her. that's bryan and lucas under the giant fish. ironically, lucas downed four fried catfish and tried to put the bones in my ice cream.

daisy in uniform

here's another one of daisy. summer put one of her old school uniform shirts on her. kinda gives a knew meaning to "dog collar." daisy is just a living toy to summer, but i think she likes the attention. sometimes.

lounging daisy

ok, so this will be a quick entry because i'm on the porch with the rain spattering my screen and thunder cracking over the woods behind me. supposed to be "severe weather" today, according to chicken little. 'tis spring, though. oh, this is daisy, the scheming dog. she thinks she owns the house.

greenbrier tracks

taken while driving thru greenbrier after lunch at the old location greenbrier restaurant. surprisingly, this "middle of nowhere" is inside the huntsville city limits. it was annexed by a forward-thinking city official, and now there's a giant target distribution warehouse right off of I-565, by the other greenbrier bbq restaurant.

bryan & sauces

this is bryan, a 7 foot-tall guy in summer's class. he tried all of those sauces at some point during the meal. this was his first Greenbrier experience. his second thru thirteenth came later that day courtesy of hushpuppy reflux. in his own words: "i...i think i can...touch it..."

this is my cousin (mom's cousin's daughter?) Autumn. she's almost 8 and quite a character. we had lunch at the Old Location Greenbrier Restaurant. there are actually 2 Greenbrier BBQ restaurants (within 3 miles of each other), but it's a complex story. their hushpuppies are heaven in a plastic basket. 'course they'll keep visiting you even after you eat them. which isn't necessarily a bad thing...

tiny house

this is the living room of my sister's dollhouse. she loves minatures. in fact, she was all fired up to watch this new reality show called "tiny house"--until she realized it was a geico commercial. she made some of the furnishings herself (i.e., pillows, pottery, paintings), which is a good since the minature furniture costs nearly as much as the life-size counterparts. you can see my contribution in the back right corner...

red leaves

even though everything else on the mountain is brown and rather dead right now, the interesting wildflowers are worth a trek thru the land trust on monte sano.

i think this trickle came from fagan springs farther up the mountain. the whole huntsville area is dotted with springs and caves and other geological fun. the national speleological society is based out of huntsville, in fact.

old railroad bed trail

went hiking on monte sano with the dogs on monday. most people from out of town choke when we call monte sano a mountain. so what if it's only 1600 feet above sea level? foothills are mountains, too.

portrait by caleb

caleb very sweetly drew this napoleon-esque portrait of me on friday. "i spent like 3 hours shading the upper lip." if i wasn't self-conscious of my second mouth before...

red dirt country

taken thru a car window (hence the reflections). one of the cool things about huntsville is random cotton/soy fields just outside the city limits. heck, there's even random fields in the middle of the city. sure, they'll probably be developed eventually, but for now, it's nice seeing red dirt that's not caked onto the dogs' feet.

christmas eve

this is my mom and my sister digging into our christmas eve meal of 2004. i like the colors in this shot. and the barbeque. mostly the barbeque. mmm.

this lady bug had been hanging around my desk for a while. it died eventually, but i did get this shot of it crawling on my ipod before the bug expired. i have one of the old, first gen 5 gig ipods, but it's still kickin'. more than i can say for the lady bug.

queen S

this isn't the most flattering pic of my sister summer. we were ambushing each other with the camera. we have a lot of fun being weird together.

the soft one

this is biscuit, one of our two cocker spaniels. his sister daisy is soft, too, but he's more like a stuffed animal with bones. they just finished their 15 minutes in "the naughty rooms". it was biscuit, of course, that was snarling. he's got alpha dog issues. and maybe a demon. he's just weird like that.

chris @ grandaddio

chris was the other guest at the grandaddio party. i've actually known him longer than i've known meaghan and rebecca. he's going to oooooklahoma for college.

dq clique

this is ron and my dad at Dairy Queen. sundays after church we (mom, dad, sister, me, and ron) usually go there for lunch. it's by invitation only. there's requirements, too. like not being afraid of cholesterol.

joe @ grandaddio

this is joe, one of two guests at the grandaddio party, attempt two. he'll be joining the marines this may after he graduates. right now, i'm listening to my ipod, posting from my ibook, out on the deck, looking at the moon, and stealing someone else's wireless signal. life's pretty good. but i think i need a light jacket.

meaghan and rebecca at a pre-grandaddio party sleepover. i have three "best friends" and these are two of them. i don't remember what they were laughing about...maybe they were singing.

ah, another day, another blog

well, i'm starting another blog. i'm hoping it will become a photoblog. i don't know if i'll have time in the future to actually update it, but oh well. i can do something impulsive once in a while. can't i?
